Bhatkal: A biker sustained severe injuries in an accident on Murdeshwar National Highway 66 in Bhatkal taluk after being struck by a car. The incident occurred on Saturday around 6 PM. The injured individual has been identified as 40-year-old Ronald Anthon Dias, a resident of Kodani in Honnavar Taluk.
According to sources, ongoing construction work on the four-lane National Highway had led to the closure of one side of the road. IRB Infrastructure had placed a diversion board to redirect traffic, but the car driver failed to notice the board, resulting in a high-speed collision with the bike. The injured biker, Ronald, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and later transferred to Manipal Hospital in critical condition.
Following the accident, a large crowd gathered on the highway, protesting against IRB Infrastructure and alleging negligence, which they claimed has been causing frequent accidents on the highway.
Upon receiving information, the Murdeshwar police arrived at the scene, assessed the situation, and initiated necessary action.
