Bhatkal: The IRB's claim of 75% completion of work in Uttara Kannada is false, as many bridges are one-sided, and in many places, roadworks remain incomplete, asserted Uttara Kannada district in-charge minister Mankal Vaidya.

While addressing reporters, he asserted that the National Highway four-lane contracting company, IRB, is disseminating misinformation. He referred to a survey conducted from Majali to Bhatkal, undertaken by the previous Deputy Commissioner, the findings of which have been delivered to me. This report reveals that the claim of completing 75% of the work is inaccurate.

IRB had previously announced that toll collection would commence only after reaching 75% completion of the project. However, it has come to our attention that toll collection began when only 50% of the work remained unfinished, even though three years have passed since the start of toll collection.

Minister Mankal Vaidya emphasized that many locations are currently reliant on single bridges, and in several instances, the road conditions themselves are below par. Projects in Bhatkal, Kaikini, and Ankola are still awaiting completion. Minister Vaidya has openly challenged IRB to provide evidence to support their claims.

Vaidya highlighted the discrepancy between the information provided by IRB regarding the National Highway's progress and the report compiled by the Deputy Commissioner following their survey. This contradiction raises concerns about the credibility of IRB's claims. The district administration has not recognized any completed work by IRB, prompting us to initiate an independent assessment. Minister Vaidya reiterated that the district will not tolerate any injustice towards its residents.

Regrettably, numerous accidents have occurred due to the chaotic state of the ongoing work. Despite collecting tolls for three years, the issues with the system have not been addressed. Mankal Vaidya reaffirmed their commitment to taking action and resolving the situation.

Furthermore, we have urged that traffic not be allowed on London Bridge without a tunnel fitness certificate. IRB acknowledges the absence of this certificate, but paradoxically, when toll collection was suspended, they hastily produced the certificate. Such inconsistencies erode our trust in their claims.

We are meticulously reviewing IRB's progress and expect them to address the discrepancies. Vaidya cautioned that if corrective measures are not implemented within the next few days, we will initiate a protest.
