Bhatkal: Heble Panchayat in the Bhatkal taluk faced a growing issue as the absence of proper garbage disposal arrangements led residents to dispose of household waste on roadsides and open spaces. This resulted in piles of garbage accumulating along the roads leading to areas such as Jamia Abad Road, Mina Road, Rahmat Abad, Firdose nagar, Haneef Abad and others. The growing trash posed a threat of disease outbreaks, prompting residents to express concern. Officials from Heble Panchayat explained that they lacked a dumping yard, which hindered their ability to manage the garbage effectively.

Fortunately, the garbage problem in Heble Panchayat has now found a temporary solution, thanks to the intervention of District In-charge Minister Mankal Vaidya. He directed the Bhatkal Assistant Commissioner and the Town Municipal Chief officer to grant temporary access to the Municipal dumping yard, ensuring the disposal of Heble Panchayat's garbage and maintaining cleanliness to prevent disease spread.

During the district-level review meeting held on Monday and chaired by Uttara Kannada district in-charge minister Mankal Vaidya, Advocate Imran Lanka, a member of Jali Patan Panchayat, presented three proposals to address the garbage issue in the Panchayat areas. These proposals included securing ten acres of forest land for waste disposal and garbage dumping for Taluka Panchayat, allowing the temporary dumping of Heble Panchayat's waste in the Municipality's dumping yard, and reserving an additional ten-acre land adjacent to the Municipality's dumping yard for future waste disposal needs. Mankal Vaidya approved these suggestions, directing officials to implement them accordingly.

The District In-charge Minister also advised Taluka Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Prabhakar Chikkanmane to request ten acres of land from the Forest Department for the Taluka Panchayat, ensuring an effective solution for waste disposal needs. On the following day, Municipal Chief Officer Neelkanth Mesta confirmed the submission of a written proposal to the Forest Department, requesting ten acres of land adjacent to the dumping yard on Sagar Road. Additionally, it has been reported that the Taluka Panchayat submitted a proposal to the Forest Department, seeking five acres of land for garbage disposal.
