Bhatkal: Bhatkal witnessed its first dengue-related fatality on Sunday, raising concerns about the escalating number of dengue patients in the region. Sources indicate that over 30 dengue patients are currently under treatment at Bhatkal Government Hospital. Of these, three patients have been admitted to the facility, while more than a hundred individuals with dengue are seeking medical care from private clinics and hospitals in Bhatkal.
Meanwhile, Ashraf Saada, an active member of Bhatkal Muslim Jamaat in Mangalore, has reported that more than ten patients are currently admitted for the treatment of dengue fever in various hospitals in Mangalore, with several others having been successfully treated and discharged.
At this time, the number of patients seeking treatment in Kundapur hospitals and Udupi hospitals remains unknown.
The deceased patient, identified as Prajval Kharvi, was a 24-year-old working on a fishing boat in Bandar. He was initially taken to Bhatkal Government Hospital due to a severe fever. However, upon discovering the absence of the General Physician, he was promptly transferred to Kundapur Government Hospital. Later, he was moved to a private hospital in Udupi. Tragically, despite medical interventions, his condition continued to deteriorate, ultimately resulting in his unfortunate passing on Sunday.
Sources have revealed that following the youth's death, residents of Bandar in Mavin Kurve confronted panchayat officials, expressing their concerns about the accumulation of garbage in the area and the lack of attention to cleanliness.
It should be recalled that a majority of dengue patients receiving treatment in private hospitals, clinics, and hospitals in Mangalore hail from the old streets of Bhatkal and predominantly come from middle-class families.
