Bhatkal: The seaward side of Tengingundi Port, locally known as Jetty, sank suddenly last year, causing a tipper lorry to fall into it. Despite a year passing since the incident, this section of the seashore remains unrepaired, resulting in the sinking of the other part of the Jetty as well. The current condition of the Jetty is perilous, and even walking on it poses a danger, as there is a constant fear that it might collapse at any moment.

Tengingundi beach attracts a large number of tourists who enjoy the waves and reach the shore by walking on this weakened Jetty. By looking at the photo, it is evident that there is no support underneath.

It is worth noting that following the sinking of the Jetty last year, the then Fishery Minister S. Angara visited Tengingundi port, reviewed the situation, and assured the fishermen that the Jetty would be promptly repaired. However, despite a whole year having passed, no repair work has been undertaken. A significant portion has now sunk due to the lack of repairs, and people continue to walk on the remaining small section, which is at risk of sinking as well.

The local fishermen are now looking to Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidya, who also holds the fisheries portfolio. Fishermen hope that the new minister will prioritize this matter and take necessary steps to promptly repair the damaged part.
