Ankola: In a distressing incident on Tuesday, a woman fell victim to a chain-snatching episode in Ankola, Uttara Kannada district. Two robbers on a motorcycle targeted her, making away with a 20-gram gold necklace valued at Rs. 80,000.

The victim, identified as Vasanthi Chudamani Tandel (64), a resident of the Hattikeri refugee colony in the taluk, was returning home when the incident occurred. Two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle seized the opportunity, snatching her gold necklace from behind.

It is said that both assailants were standing by the roadside, seemingly waiting for her to approach. As the woman, who was alone, passed by, one of the robbers shockingly grabbed her necklace and fled from the scene.

In her complaint to the police, the victim mentioned that both assailants were wearing helmets, which prevented her from seeing their faces.

A complaint has been filed at the Ankola Police Station, prompting the authorities to launch an investigation. DySP Valentine D'Souza and CPI Santosh Shetty conducted an inspection at the scene of the incident. The police have set up a trap to apprehend the culprits.
