Kundapur: Haryana Men Arrested in Serial ATM Card Thefts

Kundapur: Police have successfully arrested two persons from Haryana in connection with three separate incidents involving the theft of money from ATM cardholders. 

The arrested are identified as Sandeep (36) from Barsi Jatan, Haryana, and Ravi (27) from Aurangnagar, Haryana, were taken into custody by the investigative team from Byndoor police station. Among the items seized from the suspects were ₹21,000 in cash, 217 ATM cards, a POS machine, 2 mobile phones, and a motorcycle.

The investigation has unveiled that the accused were engaged in more than 20 cases across various states. Their criminal activities were predominantly carried out in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Rajasthan, as revealed during the ongoing probe.

The modus operandi of the accused involved posing as helpful individuals at two ATMs in Shiruru and one ATM center in Byndoor. Under the pretense of assisting genuine customers in withdrawing money, the perpetrators substituted their own ATM cards and fraudulently transferred a total of ₹2,26,000 across three locations.

Three separate cases related to these incidents were registered at Byndoor police station. The police initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of the suspects in Kundapur on Wednesday. The accused were subsequently produced in court.

Udupi District Superintendent of Police, Dr. Arun K., guided by Additional Superintendent of Police S.T. Siddalingappa, received support from Parameshwara Hegde, Kundapur DySP Beliyappa KU, Byndur Circle Inspector Savitra Tej, Byndur Police Station PSI Thimmesh, and Crime Branch staff, including Sujith Kumar, Malappa, Soora Naik, Nagashree, Sridhara Patil, and Kundapur. The crime branch staff of the station provided valuable assistance throughout the operation.
