Bhatkal: Following the report of a lock-up death at Honavar police station, five police personnel were suspended by top police officials on Sunday.
According to sources, two individuals, residents of Bihar, were accused by local people of cheating under the pretense of gold ornament polishing. A complaint was filed at Honnavar police station, leading to the father and son being brought in for investigation.
During the investigation, the son, identified as Dilip Mandel, requested water and consumed cyanide poison from his bag, resulting in his death. This incident occurred on Saturday.
Upon receiving the report, Uttara Kannada SP Vishnu Vardhan from Karwar promptly arrived at Honavar police station. After conducting an inspection and inquiry, the SP took action on Sunday and suspended five police personnel, including an inspector and a PSI, on charges of negligence during their duty.
