Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner Mullai Mugilan has issued a stern directive to all public buses registered since 2017, requiring the prompt installation of doors and the submission of affidavits within the next month.

While chairing the Road Safety Committee meeting at the Deputy Commissioner's office hall on Wednesday, he stressed the imperative for all buses registered from 2017 to comply with the legal mandate of having doors. In light of this, he instructed the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to enforce this measure rigorously within the next month and collect affidavits from bus owners.

Emphasizing the non-negotiable importance of public safety, he firmly stated that negligence in this matter would not be tolerated. The public has fervently demanded the installation of doors in buses, with such requests being voiced in public relations meetings.

States such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and others have already implemented the installation of doors on buses, resulting in improved traffic flow.

The Deputy Commissioner assured that similar measures will be implemented in the district without delay.
