Sirsi: Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satish Jarkiholi has announced the government's commitment to constructing footbridges in disconnected villages across Coastal Karnataka, Malnad, and other rural areas with limited accessibility.

This declaration followed a meeting with a delegation led by Ravindra Naik, the president of Atikaram Horata Samiti. The delegation raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of roads and footbridges in various coastal, hilly, and Malnad areas of Uttara Kannada. The absence of functional footbridges has rendered many villages isolated, underscoring the urgent need for financial support. Minister Satish Jarakiholi disclosed that a circular has already been dispatched to the Principal Secretary of the Public Works Department, outlining the necessary steps to address these concerns.

The memorandum presented by Ravindra Naik outlined the hardships faced by the villagers in these disconnected areas. Due to the lack of footbridges, residents are deprived of essential services, causing severe disruption to their lives. Particularly affected are the students, who are unable to attend schools and colleges due to the lack of road connectivity.

Ravindra Naik advocated for the allocation of special grants to Uttara Kannada due to the ongoing lack of basic facilities, particularly in its hilly areas. He further emphasized that the makeshift paths and footbridges constructed by villagers and students during the rainy season pose potential dangers
