Bhatkal: A tragic incident occurred when a mother and daughter lost their lives after their Scooty was struck by a KSRTC bus while attempting to cross Manki National Highway 66, approximately 25km from Bhatkal.

The victims have been identified as Savitha Raju Achari (40) and her 17-year-old daughter Ankita Raju Achari, residents of Manki Saraswati Keri. They were commuting home from Manki Gullatkeri, located in Honnavar taluk, at the time of the accident.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Scooty riders attempted to cross the National Highway without properly checking for oncoming traffic. Unfortunately, a speeding bus traveling from Mangalore to Belgaum collided with their vehicle.

Despite the bus driver's efforts to avoid the collision, including attempting to swerve the bus and maneuvering it onto the road divider, the impact was unavoidable, and one of the bus's wheels struck the Scooty.

Following the collision, both the mother and daughter were rushed to Bhatkal Government Hospital. Tragically, they succumbed to their injuries before receiving medical treatment.

The bodies of Savitha and Ankita have been transferred to Bhatkal Mortuary. Once the post-mortem examination is completed, their remains will be released to their family for final rites.
