Mangaluru: A sum of Rs 2.09 lakh vanished from the account of a 30-year-old man in Mangaluru due to an online fraud incident.

According to his complaint, he received a message on January 11 via TelegramApp, inviting him to join a group that claimed to provide daily earnings. Intrigued, he joined the group and completed the assigned tasks.

Upon selecting a task that promised Rs 7,000, he was unexpectedly asked to make a payment of Rs 25,000. Succumbing to this demand, he transferred Rs 2.09 lakh through various links and wallets in a phased manner. Unfortunately, the promised returns never materialized, leaving the complainant in distress.

A case has been registered at  Bantwal Town Police Station.
