Mangaluru: A tragic incident unfolded near Surathkal as a six-year-old girl lost her life when the scooter her father was riding was hit from behind by a truck on Wednesday, according to police sources.

The accident occurred as the father and daughter were returning home from school on the scooter. A truck approached from behind and collided with the two-wheeler.

The impact of the collision threw the girl onto the road, where she was subsequently run over by the truck. Although her father sustained injuries, he survived the accident. The child's body was moved to a private hospital.

The injured father was also admitted to the hospital for medical treatment. Witnesses to the incident attempted to confront the truck driver, but Surathkal police, upon reaching the scene, intervened and prevented any further altercation.

The driver was apprehended, and the vehicle involved in the accident was impounded, as per police sources.
