Udupi District Promotes Vigilance Amidst Growing Online Transactions

Udupi: In the digital age, online business transactions pose an increased risk of consumer deception, prompting Udupi District Collector Dr. K. Vidyakumari to emphasize caution.

The National Consumer Day celebrations, jointly organized by various departments, aimed to raise awareness and protect consumer rights.

Dr. Vidyakumari stressed the importance of vigilance in daily purchases, urging consumers to be aware of their needs before procuring goods and services. In case of fraud, she advised seeking recourse through consumer courts, emphasizing the crucial role of consumer laws in safeguarding rights.

U.G. Kamat, Convenor of the User Forum, highlighted the protection available under the Consumer Protection Act, encouraging consumers to file complaints with the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum at the district level. With the prevalence of digital deception, caution was deemed essential.

Dr. Bhaskar Shetty S., the college principal, presided over the event, and A.P. Kodancha, the ex-convenor of the User Forum, delivered a lecture. Attendees included members from the District Legal Service Authority, User Forum, and Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum.

Deputy Director Ravindra and salutations by Lakshmibai marked the event, emphasizing the need for public awareness about the Consumer Protection Act and the illegality of selling expired medicines. In a concise message, the event stressed the role of consumer vigilance and legal recourse in the face of evolving digital markets.
