Bhatkal: A man, identified as Dasa Ira Moger, 42, was severely injured after being struck by a train while walking on the railway platform. The incident occurred around 1:15 pm on Wednesday at platform No. 1, when a train going towards Murdeshwar, coming from Bangalore, hit Dasa from behind, causing him to fall onto the tracks and severing his hand.
Dasa was immediately rushed to Bhatkal Government Hospital for initial treatment and later transferred to Mangalore Wenlock Hospital for further care.
Railway authorities reported that Dasa did not possess a platform ticket or a travel ticket at the time of the incident. Eyewitnesses confirmed that Dasa was walking on the platform when the train struck him.
A video clip that went viral on social media showed Dasa lying on the tracks inside the train, with his hand separated from his body and fallen outside the track.
It was discovered that the entire incident was captured on CCTV at the railway station. However, the railway authorities have refused to release or show the footage to the media. According to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) office in Bhatkal, only a higher officer has the authority to provide the CCTV footage, and the current inspector is on leave.
As of the time of this report, no complaint has been registered at the Bhatkal police station regarding the accident.
