Rahul Gandhi presses EC chief to share data on Karnataka polls, alleges probe obstruction

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has once again targeted Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, urging him to make public the data related to the Karnataka Assembly elections. Taking to social media on Thursday, the Congress MP alleged that the central poll body was shielding those behind voter fraud.

“Stop giving excuses and hand over the evidence to Karnataka CID,” Rahul posted on X, accusing the CEC of protecting “vote thieves.”

The Election Commission, however, dismissed the allegations as “false and baseless,” insisting that due process had been followed.

Rahul claimed that after the Congress candidate in Aland Assembly segment flagged irregularities, a local election officer lodged an FIR. But, he alleged, the CID’s inquiry has been hindered by the CEC, who has withheld crucial technical details such as IP addresses and OTP trails.

Earlier in the day, Rahul had presented what he described as proof of an attempt to delete over 6,000 voters in Aland, arguing that his party’s candidate could have lost if the deletions had gone unnoticed.

Responding to the charges, the EC admitted there were “unsuccessful attempts” to tamper with the voter list in 2023 but noted that corrective action had been taken. The poll body pointed out that while the BJP had won the seat in 2018, the Congress secured it in the 2023 elections.

Rahul maintained that despite repeated requests from Karnataka officials, the Election Commission has stalled the probe, effectively preventing the CID from moving forward.
