Chandigarh: A woman was killed and three others seriously injured when a self-proclaimed godwoman and her private securitymen allegedly went on a shooting spree during a wedding function in Haryana's Karnal district.

The victim and those injured had come to attend the wedding function where Sadhvi Deva Thakur and her securitymen started celebratory firing in the air. Several rounds were fired by them, said police, quoting eyewitnesses.

Police booked Thakur and her security guards on charges of murder and under other sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act following the shooting incident.

The Sadhvi and her securitymen allegedly aimed at the dance floor. As the groom's aunt collapsed, the self-proclaimed godwoman and her group fled the spot.

The incident took place on Tuesday at the Savitri Lawns, a marriage garden near the railway station in Karnal.

Police said a hunt is on to arrest the accused.
