New Delhi: A week after Indian Army conducted surgical strikes in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, intelligence agencies have warned of a possible terror attack at 24 airports across India, including in Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir.
According to sources, the Civil Aviation Security Bureau has sent detailed notices to the airports, the police chiefs of each state, the Central Industrial Security Force that guards airports and to private and state-run airlines.
While additional measures are taken during every festive season, agencies are particularly concerned about the possibility of an attack in the wake of heightened tension along the Line of Control with Pakistan following the Army's surgical strike.
Officials have confirmed that security has been increased, and the border states of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat are on high alert.
After the terror threat, people travelling from the flight are requested to reach the airport an hour earlier to avoid inconvenience. The baggage will be subjected to more random and detailed checks, parking lots, as well as loading areas used by airport vehicles, will be more carefully monitored.
Early on Thursday, three militants were killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district after their infiltration attempt. On Wednesday, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security that said around 100 militants were gearing up to cross the LoC and launch attacks in India.
