Bengaluru: In yet another case of cheating people by promising seats in professional colleges, three engineering graduates have been arrested by the Kengeri police.
It is alleged that the trio had cheated several students after convincing them that they were part of college recruiting team and duped them by selling medical seats in lakhs of rupees.
According to the police, the arrested engineering graduates were Bharath Babu (25), Anchith (26), a native of Patna and Rithesh Kumar (29), a native of Bihar. The police recovered around Rs 37.95 lakh in cash, 13 mobile phones, along with a car and a two-wheeler.
They were arrested based on a complaint filed by the parent of a student in Telangana. The three were arrested by police after tracking their mobile phone numbers.
It is said that they had cheated four students of Rs 6.40 lakh, for which the central police had registered a case against them. The Tumakuru Town police had also registered a case against them after they cheated a person of Rs 22 lakh by promising him a medical seat, added the police.
It is said that the accused would gather details of the people who were trying to get an engineering or medical seat and approach them. They would manage to convince the aspirants that they know officials in the colleges and would get them seats, added the police. The police cleared that the involvement of college authorities was not found in the case.
