Bhatkal: One person succumbed to his injuries while another was seriously injured after a car rammed into a scooter on National Highway 66 near City Light Cross in Nawayath Colony, Bhatkal. The deceased has been identified as Tausif (40), a resident of Shirur who was currently living in Azad Nagar, Bhatkal, while the injured has been identified as Syed Umar Rashad Shaikh (20), a resident of Madina Colony, Bhatkal.
The accident occurred on Wednesday morning at around 11 am when the scooter was moving from City Light Cross towards Shamsuddin Circle on the National Highway. At that time, a speeding car coming from the opposite direction and travelling from Udupi to Sirsi hit the scooter while overtaking a lorry. The impact was so severe that the scooter was thrown a few metres away, while both riders were flung onto the middle of the road.
Following the accident, local residents shifted the injured to the Bhatkal Government Hospital, from where they were later taken to Mangaluru after primary treatment. It is learnt that Tausif succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Mangaluru, and his body is being brought back to Bhatkal.
A case has been registered at the Bhatkal Town Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
