Uttara Kannada district has 11.94 lakh voters

Bhatkal constituency has highest number of voters in dist
Karwar (DHNS): With six Assembly constituencies, Uttara Kannada district has a total of 11,94,714 voters. This was after the revision of the electoral rolls which concluded recently.

This includes 5,99,527 men, 5,95,180 women and seven others.

The draft voters list was published in January. Later, the final voters list was published in early March. As per the list, there are 11.94 lakh voters.

As inclusion of names in the voters’ list was allowed till the day before the election notification was issued, the number of voters in the district increased by 11,000 in just one month. Most of the new entrants are young voters.

“Young people are showing more interest in participating in the election process. Apart from this, voter registration increased due to continuous awareness programmes held through SVEEP activities. As a result, registration of new voters crossed 10,000 within a month,” said election officials.

Women voters more

Karwar has 1,06,142 male voters and 1,11,125 female voters. The number of women voters is 5,000 more than the male voters here. The total voters here is 2,19,267.

Bhatkal constituency has 2,22,708 voters including 1,12,988 male and 1,09,720 female voters. This is the constituency with the highest number of voters in Uttara Kannada district.

Haliyal constituency has 1,81,033 voters including 91,132 males and 89,899 females. In Kumta, there are 1,88,735 voters including 94,247 males and 94,485 females.

Sirsi constituency has 2,00,615 voters including 1,00,780 males and 99,833 females while Yellapur constituency has 1,82,356 voters including 92,238 males and 90,118 females.

Voters above 80 yrs

This time, the Election Commission has provided an opportunity for disabled persons and those above 80 years of age to vote from home. There are 27,347 people above 80 years of age in the district.

In addition, there are 29,352 people in the age group of 18-19 and they will be exercising their franchise for the first time during the Assembly election, polling for which will be held on May 10.
