Mangaluru(DHNS): Roopa, serving as an assistant engineer (technical), Panchayat engineering, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, was trapped red-handed by Lokayukta officials while receiving the first instalment bribe of Rs 8,000 from a contractor on Monday.

According to the complaint received by Lokayukta, Roopa had demanded Rs 10,000 as a bribe in order to clear the bill submitted by the contractor who had completed the work on the dormitory hall at post metric boys hostel for SC students in Belthangady taluk.

Roopa was arrested and produced before the court, Lokayukta sources said.

The trap was laid under the directions of Lokayukta Superintendent of Police C A Simon.
