
Udupi: Udupi police have arrested four individuals for allegedly tying a woman to a tree and assaulting her over accusations of fish theft. According to media reports, the incident took place on March 18, and videos of the attack have gone viral on social media.
The footage shows an enraged group attacking the woman, later tying her to a tree and continuing the assault. Bystanders reportedly did not intervene, according to police sources.
The victim, a resident of Vijayanagar district, was accused by locals of stealing fish. Among those arrested is a woman named Lakshmi Bai, along with Sundar, Shilpa, and another unidentified individual.
Authorities are analyzing the viral videos to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the assault. According to sources, Udupi Deputy Commissioner K. Vidya Kumari stated that an FIR has been registered, emphasizing that such acts are legally and morally unacceptable.
