Bengaluru: With heavy rainfall expected in the city over the next two to three days, Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Wednesday directed officials to take all precautionary measures in advance to prevent rain-related incidents and ensure a prompt response to emergencies.

Addressing a virtual meeting with Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, the Commissioners of all five municipal corporations and other senior officials, the Minister said, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in the western, northern, eastern and central parts of Bengaluru over the next two to three days.

The Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert in this regard. Officials must remain vigilant and take all precautionary measures before any rain-related incidents occur, he said.

Gowda said western and northern Bengaluru were likely to receive rainfall above normal levels. Prahari vehicle teams must therefore remain fully active and conduct regular rounds across the city. These teams should be in a position to provide immediate assistance wherever required, he directed.

Prahari teams are specialized 24x7 mobile enforcement units managed by civic authorities, officials said.

According to a statement by Greater Bengaluru Authority, Gowda directed that control rooms remain operational 24 hours a day during the rainy period and respond immediately to complaints received from any part of the city.

In areas prone to waterlogging, pumping equipment and motors must be kept ready to drain out accumulated water, he said.

Officials were also instructed to ensure in advance the availability of adequate manpower and JCBs to clear fallen trees and deal with other rain-related emergencies, it said.

“Engineers across the GBA jurisdiction and the Fire and Emergency Services must remain fully prepared to deal with any situation,” Minister Gowda told officials.
