Karwar: Uttara Kannada district officials have been directed to ensure that all work under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is completed without delay and to address any water source issues promptly. District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Ishwar Kandu emphasized that delays in project progress or leaving work unfinished will not be tolerated.
The remarks were made during a progress review meeting held at the Ambedkar Bhavan in Sirsi, which involved officials from the District Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat, and the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department. The meeting focused on the progress of JJM projects in the Sirsi, Siddapur, Mundgod, Yellapur, Dandeli, Haliyal, and Joida taluks.
Kandu further stated that if there are issues with water sources for JJM projects, these should be included in the 2025-26 NREGA action plan to develop water resources. He also stressed that Panchayat Development Officers must cooperate with JJM officials to ensure smooth project implementation. Moreover, quality testing of water sources across all areas must be conducted regularly to avoid any issues.
As part of the review, it was noted that Siddapur taluk had made significant progress in JJM work, and similar advancements must be made across all other taluks. Contractors have been instructed to ensure high-quality work, with the primary aim of delivering the benefits of the project to the people. The taluks with lower completion rates in Batch-2, 3, and 4 projects have been urged to expedite their progress.
Nagesh Raikar, the Deputy Secretary of the District Panchayat Administration, also emphasized that officials and staff under the SBM (Swachh Bharat Mission) must be aware of their responsibilities and perform their duties accordingly. Some Panchayats, despite the "World Toilet Day" initiative, had not carried out any activities related to the campaign. He warned that strict action would be taken against those who fail to comply.
District Panchayat Chief Accountant Anandsa Abib highlighted that despite the end of the financial year, some village Panchayats still have significant funds remaining from the 15th Finance Commission. He instructed that appropriate measures should be taken immediately to address this issue.
The meeting was attended by Rajeev P. Naik, Executive Engineer of the Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officers, NREGA Assistant Directors, Assistant Executive Engineers, and other Panchayat officials and staff.
