New Delhi: The Delhi High Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on Monday, seeking 'extraordinary interim bail' for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in various criminal cases. The division bench, consisting of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, not only rejected the plea but also imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on the petitioner.

The court's decision was rooted in the belief that it cannot grant such bail, especially in cases involving a person holding high office. They emphasized that Kejriwal is currently in judicial custody as per court orders, with ongoing challenges in the Supreme Court.

The petitioner, identified as a fourth-year law student under 'We the People of India', argued for Kejriwal's safety due to his confinement in Tihar Jail with serious criminals. However, Senior Advocate Rahul Mehra, representing Kejriwal, criticized the PIL as 'completely impermissible' and accused the petitioner of using the court as a political platform.

The court echoed this sentiment, questioning the petitioner's understanding of legal principles and dismissing claims of being a custodian of the people or having the authority to offer personal bonds on behalf of Kejriwal.

Acting Chief Justice Manmohan also rebuked the petitioner, asking if they had "good attendance in law school." "It seems he does not follow principles of law," Acting Chief Justice Manmohan remarked.
