Theft in high-security naval base in Karwar; gold ornaments worth over ₹4 lakh stolen

Karwar: In a shocking incident, a theft has been reported from the highly secure premises of the Karwar Naval Base, where miscreants stole gold ornaments worth over ₹4.83 lakh from a residence.

The naval base, known for its tight security, restricts entry not only for the general public but also for state police. With 24-hour surveillance and CCTV cameras monitoring every movement, the occurrence of theft has raised serious concerns for security officials.

According to the complaint filed at Karwar Rural Police Station, thieves broke into the residence of Pankaj Singh and stole gold ornaments stored in a study table drawer. Pankaj Singh's wife had brought the jewelry inside the naval quarters through the Binaga Kamat Gate after wearing it for Diwali celebrations. The ornaments were last seen on February 2, but when checked again on February 12, they were missing.

Following the complaint, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the theft inside the high-security area.
