Kozhikode: Aster DM Healthcare is set to transform the sports map of Kerala with the launch of two world-class Centres for Sports Medicine at Aster Medcity, Kochi and Aster MIMS, Kozhikode. The two centres will be inaugurated in both cities on same day, 02nd February'17, by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in the presence of Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman and Managing Director, Aster DM Healthcare and a host of dignitaries.

The Centres for Sports Medicine will have the most modern and sophisticated facilities for assessment of physical fitness, management of injuries and enhancement of performance levels in athletes as well as non-athletes of all ages.

Dr. Azad Moopen, Chairman and Managing Director, Aster DM Healthcare said, “Sports plays an integral role in life today. Sports teach life skills, build character, enhance self-discipline, promote team work and create a sense of unity. I believe that in today’s fast moving society, sports is the right medium to channel the high spirits of youth into positive energy. In sports, injuries are also bound to happen and these require prompt care.Unfortunately we don't have good centres for sports related injuries in the state. Given the right support and infrastructure, Kerala today has the potential to produce sportspersons who can excel on the world stage. The two Centres of Sports Medicine at our flagship healthcare institutions will champion sports in Kerala by providing high quality comprehensive medical, surgical and rehabilitation care to all active individuals – professional, amateur or purely recreational.”

The two Centres for Sports Medicine will strengthen Aster DM Healthcare’s association with sports following their earlier felicitation of the Rio Paralympic medal winners by providing free lifetime healthcare support and their commitment to football in Kerala, as seen by their continuing association as medical partners with both Kerala Football Association and the Kerala Blasters ISL league.

The Centre for Sports Medicine and Advanced Rehabilitation will aim to enhance the fitness levels of athletes as well as non-athletes through scientific knowledge. The core of the Centres will comprise a world-class medical team comprising Sports Medicine Physician, Sports Surgeons, Behavioural Analysts, Physiotherapists and Nutritionists. This multidisciplinary team will create customized plans to help the patient stay healthy, active and achieve the desired level of performance. The Centre will also work with non-athletes, offering both comprehensive diagnostic and therapy options.

Dr. Rahul Menon, CEO, Aster MIMS said, “A key focus of the Centres will be to keep sportspersons safe and injury-free with a team sw0020 of specialists in Sports Medicine working to accurately diagnosis, treat and prevent any sporting injury or medical condition affected by or related to activity. They will be supported by state of the art infrastructure including an advanced surgical set-up, a sophisticated rehabilitation centre, the latest radiological services for investigations, modern facilities for biokinetic, nutritional and behavioral analysis, and in-house research.”

In a one of its kind inauguration of both the Centres in one day, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is scheduled to inaugurate the Centre at Aster MIMS, Kozhikode in the morning at 11.30 am post which he will fly down to Kochi to inaugurate the Centre at Aster Medcity in the afternoon at 3:30 pm.
