Minister Madawraj inaugurates high tech women's fish market in Udupi

Udupi:  Udupi district incharge Minister and Minister for Fisheries and Youth Affairs Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated India’s largest women hi tech fish market at a cost of Rs 2.26 crores near Poorna Prajna College in the city on January 14.

The two storey, 16,000 square feet building has toilets and rest rooms as well with other facilities. Out of the total 174 counters, 154 have been registered for fresh fish sellers where as four stalls for dry fish sales. Whole sale vendors have 13 counters and remaining three is reserved for others. 

 “This is the biggest high tech fish market of the nation" claimed Pramod Madawraj after the inauguration. He also said, "The responsibility of keeping it clean lies on the people who are using it. The customer must be happy with seller and they must get a healthy atmosphere here. The counters will be given with the method of chit picking to the fish seller women.”

MLC Srinivas Pujari said that the methods of including fish mongers and the fish sellers in the category of unmanaged laborers and to supply them the facilities of labor department should be made by government. At the event the lady fish mongers were certified by certificates. Different leaders of different casts were noticed in the opening ceremony. 

The fish market is only allocated to the women fish mongers. the plan of constructing this high-tech fish market was planned in the year of 2012, the women fish mongers were transferred to another place and then the work was started but after some time the work was stopped till one year.

CMC President Meenakashi Madhav Bannanje, UUDA President Narasimhamurthy CMC Vice President Sandya, CMC Members Geetha Ravi Shet, Ramesh Kanchan and others were present.
