Karwar: Legislative Assembly SC, ST Welfare Committee Chairman K Shivamurthy has directed the district administration to send a proposal for setting up training center on fishing and also to construct a school for children of forest dwellers.
Efforts would be made to get a nod for these proposal during the next budget, he added.
He noted this while speaking to media person in Karwar on Monday after chairing a meeting of officials on utilization of welfare funds for SC, ST communities. Seeking employment, SC, ST community people are migrating to coastal region.
Evaluating their problems, the government has decided to provide them training on fishing and empower them financially.
This apart, the funds allocated for the Fisheries Department for welfare of SC, STs too would be utilized effectively, he added.
The government is also mulling to run schools exclusively for the children of forest dwellers.
The government is brining in new policy wherein the implementation officer will be held responsible if there are lapses in utilization of funds meant for SC and STs. Karnataka will be the first state to bring in such a policy. There is a provision to initiate stern action against the erring officials, he said.
