Protest in Sirsi against painting of Om and Jai Shri Ram on a Dargah walls

Sirsi: Jai Shri Ram and symbol of Om were painted on the walls and the door of a dargah in Sirsi recently, resulting in thousands of Muslim protesting outside Sirsi AC office on Monday, demanding to arrest the culprits and prohibiting the miscreants to disrupt the peacful atmosphere of Sirsi.

Members of Muslim community led by Hanafi Sunni markaz committee, and Hazrat Sayyed Motisha Qasri urus committee, staged a protest outside the AC office in Sirsi, demanding arrest of those disturbing peace and communal harmony in the town by playing with religious sentiments of people and those supporting it indirectly. 

Earlier more than 2000 people took out on a rally which was led by Hanafi Sunni markaz committee, and Hazrat Sayyed Motisha Qasri urus committee. The rally began at Kotekere area and concluded at Assistant Commissioner’s office through the old bus stand.

The chief of Ahle Sunnat Jamaat Iqbal Bilgi said, "We respect the constitution of our land. Muslims and Hindus are residing harmoniously, and are the example of integrity, but few malicious beings are trying to disrupt the peacefull atmosphere. District administration should arrest those culprits immediately and peace should be maintained in the area".

They handed a memorandum to Assistant Commissioner K Raju Mogaveer, which was addressed to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister. There was a description about the brotherhood and camaraderie. They sought action against those involved in painting the walls of Hazrat Sayyed Motisha Qadri Darga in Huseri in Sirsi taluk.

Community leaders Khader Anvatti, Abbas Tonse, H.U. Pathan, Zuber Jukaku, Anees tahsildar, Imtiyaz Anvatti, Sayyed Mohtisha urus samithi office bearers were amongst the people present.
