Karwar: Everyone should show care about wetland, which can be used for many purposes, said scientist and president of Mangrove Society of India Arvind Untavale. Addressing the students at a 'wetland for disaster risk reduction' programme organised to mark the World Wetland Day at the District Science Centre here on Thursday, he said as wetland is surrounded water, it's very fertile and good for mangroves and fisheries. If mangroves grow on wetland, it will become a house for fishes, crabs, prawns and other creatures and their reproduction will take place there. During natural disastes, these mangroves will help reduce the force of cyclones, tsunami and sea waves, and thereby save the lives of people, he said. Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul said to maintain a balance between human and nature, there is a need to protect the mangroves. Everyone should work in this regard, he added.
