One Killed, Three Injured as Under-Construction Metro Segment Collapses in Mumbai; Probe Ordered

Mumbai: One person was killed and three others were injured in a tragic accident in Mulund (West), Mumbai, on Saturday afternoon when a portion of an under-construction Metro Line-4 structure collapsed onto a moving autorickshaw and a car on LBS Road.

According to fire brigade officials, a concrete segment measuring approximately 6 feet by 4 feet fell onto vehicles passing along the busy stretch between 12:15 pm and 12:20 pm. Fire brigade personnel, police teams, metro staff, ward officials and 108 ambulance service responders rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The affected stretch of the arterial road was cordoned off for some time, disrupting traffic.

The deceased has been identified as Ramdhan Yadav. The injured — Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav (45), Mahendra Pratap Yadav (52) and Deepa Ruhiya (40) — were shifted to Upasana Multispeciality Hospital. Doctors declared Ramdhan Yadav brought dead, while Rajkumar remains in the ICU. The condition of the other two injured persons is reported to be stable.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) stated that its project team was present at the site and was coordinating relief efforts with the municipal corporation and disaster management agencies.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the incident and ordered a detailed inquiry into the collapse. He announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the family of the deceased and assured that the state government would bear the medical expenses of the injured.

Mulund MLA Mihir Kotecha demanded a probe and strict action against the contractor and officials concerned, while Mayor Ritu Tawde said the segment had been installed only a day earlier and should have been properly barricaded, indicating possible negligence.
